Columbaria Transportation/ Delivery Instructions

2-Column And 4-Column Columbaria Notes:

  • During delivery, the 2-column and 4-column columbaria can be moved with a single pallet jack to the liftgate on a truck and then lowered to the ground with the liftgate. Unloading columbaria with a forklift and an elevated unloading dock makes the process easier. If you do not have an unloading dock, you can ask a surrounding business to allow you to use their dock. While not recommended, a moving strap or chain may be attached to the wooden pallet frame to move the columbaria inside the box truck at your own risk if no other options are available. Be aware of the safety risk of damaging the pallet or snapping the chain/ strap if moving columbaria around the box truck with a chain/ strap.

  • Once the columbaria are on the ground, the pallet jack can only be used on concrete and cannot move on gravel, dirt, or grass. However, you may place ¾” minimum plywood on the ground to help move the columbaria with a pallet jack on any nonpaved surfaces. If you need to move the columbaria on any off-road or nonpaved surfaces, we recommend having a forklift, skid steer, tractor, or telehandler available depending on the terrain. Telehandlers and skid steers have better wheels than forklifts for off-road use, and the telehandlers can extend the boom into a box truck. However, the columbaria can be unboxed, and many granite tiles can be removed to reduce overall weight to assist with moving the columbaria without any heavy machinery. Please see the Columbaria Installation Instructions for more information on the granite tile removal process.

  • On freight trucks, please note that liftgates and pallet jacks are not standard equipment and must be requested so please inform us if you need this equipment. There may be an additional cost for the freight service to provide this equipment, and they need to be informed before the freight is scheduled.

  • You are responsible for providing or renting any forklift, skid steer, telehandler, tractor, or fork extensions to move the columbaria. We can help connect you with a machinery rental company, but you are responsible for renting and operating the equipment. We can also help you find a rigging company that would provide the operator and the equipment to move the columbaria. If using machinery, we highly recommend driving very slowly with the columbaria in order to not shake them during transit as all our columbaria are not meant to be roughly shaken on uneven terrain.

  • Special Note: These columbaria can be moved with a pallet jack instead of a forklift or machine if needed. The columbaria can be unboxed, and all the granite tiles and crossbars can be removed from the front and back (longer) sides to reduce weight to make it easier to move the columbaria with only a pallet jack. If possible, we do recommend using machinery to move the columbaria. Please see the Columbaria Installation Instructions for more information on the granite tile removal process. 6-Column Columbaria Notes:

8-Column Columbaria Notes:

  • Please note, the 8-column columbaria are too long to fit on the liftgates of freight truck as most liftgates are only 96”x48” and the columbaria are larger. Therefore, the 8-column columbaria must be unloaded from the truck with a forklift, skid steer, tractor, or telehandler depending on the terrain. Please note that we highly recommend you use at least 6 ft to 8 ft fork extensions on any forklift, skid steer, tractor, or telehandler that you use to pick up the columbaria or damage may occur. If using machinery, we highly recommend driving very slowly with the columbaria in order to not shake them during transit as all our columbaria are not meant to be roughly shaken on uneven terrain.

Freight Delivery Inspection:

  • These columbaria are shipped by Columbarium Niches via freight by FOB Origin. Immediately upon delivery, you must inspect the columbaria pallet/s for any visible damage from freight transport before signing the freight Bill of Lading (B/L) and before the driver leaves the facility. Please read the detailed freight claim information on the outside of the pallet before signing the Bill of Lading (B/L). If you see any visible damage, please note the damage on the Bill of Lading (B/L), have the driver sign the B/L acknowledging the damage, take photographs of the damage, and call us immediately. Please see detailed inspection steps below.

ATTENTION — RECEIVING DEPARTMENT
INSPECT PALLET/S IMMEDIATELY BEFORE YOU SIGN WITH TRUCK DRIVER

Before signing the delivery receipt, you MUST:

  • Count all pieces and pallets against the Bill of Lading.

  • Inspect for: Pallet damage, product exposure or damage, and shortages or overages. Immediately check for damage. Immediately check for damage.

  • Write a complete, specific description of ANY damage or shortage on the delivery receipt / Bill of Lading (example: “Pallet 2 of 3 — corner crushed, unit dented”). Record all damage on the Bill of Lading with the driver.

  • Photograph all damage and the packaging before the driver leaves. Send photos to us immediately and a copy of the noted paperwork.

  • Have the driver sign the delivery receipt acknowledging the exception. The driver MUST sign damage with his name.

    • DO NOT sign "subject to inspection." It does not protect the claim – write exactly what is damaged IF YOU SIGN FOR THE SHIPMENT “FREE AND CLEAR” you are responsible for any freight damages and the product CANNOT be returned.

    • Severe damage: you may refuse the shipment. Minor damage: accept it but note every defect. Take pictures – have the truck driver sign and note damage.Cover your bases!

    • CONCEALED DAMAGE: Damage can occur in transit and may not be visible at delivery. Report it in writing IMMEDIATELY upon delivery, keep all packaging, and request a carrier inspection. Take pictures DO NOT WAIT!

Important Freight Notes:

  • The customer accepts all liability of unloading the columbaria from the freight truck, moving them to the desired installation zone, and then installing the columbaria. We schedule the freight pickup for our columbaria, but you will need to contact the freight provider or driver to schedule the final delivery date that works with your schedule. Please send the freight shipping provider or our team a delivery map for the delivery location if possible. This is especially important for cemetery deliveries.
